All-Star Weekend

NBA Dunk Contest

The first NBA All-star game took place in 1951 that was first conceived during a meeting between NBA President Maurice Podoloff, NBA publicity director Haskell Cohen and Boston Celtics owner Walter A. Brown.

Since 1951 the All-star game and the All-star weekend has been a huge success. Over the years the NBA decided to add new events to All-star weekend from the early stages of the Dunk Contest, Three-point Contest, H.O.R.S.E.

To the latest events, such as the NBA Celebrity Game, Rookie Challenge of NBA rookies vs sophomores, Shooting Stars, and Skill Challenge where guards go toe to toe, displaying their ball handling, agility and shooting skills.

There has been much discussion for which event fans favor the most, but over the years the NBA Dunk Contest has been the most popular, for it is the last event before the actual NBA All-star game.
